A Moment Like This - Kelly Clarkson
This was Clarkson's first single in her multi-platinum
debut album, Thankful. Co-Written by Jörgen
Elofsson and John Reid, the song was meant for
the winner of the first season of American Idol.
The top four finalists of the show, Kelly Clarkson,
Justin Guarini, Nikki McKibbin, and Tamyra Gray
all recorded their own version of the song, but
Kelly hit the final notes when named the first
winner of Idol. Leona Lewis all did her rendition
of "A Moment Like This" on the British
version, The X Factor in 200 Kelly's (and all
the Idol finalists') instant success followed
the unforgettable movie we'd all wish to forget
- From Justin to Kelly. |

Hot In Herre - Nelly
This was the first single from Nelly's album Nellyville
and was produced by The Neptunes (Pharrell Williams
and Chad Hugo). "Hot In Herre" nabbed
Nelly a Grammy for Best Male Rap Solo Performance
and got ranked number 36 in VH's list for 100
Greatest Songs of Hip Hop. Nelly, or should we
say, Cornell Haynes (his real name) has kept the
hits coming animal-free, he's a vegetarian. |

Complicated - Avril Lavigne
From her debut album, Let Go, "Complicated"
was written by her and music production team,
The Matrix (also worked with Spears, Aguilera,
and Duff). The song got Avril the MTV's Best New
Artist in a Video Award, and nominated at the
Grammys. She explains that "Complicated"
is about how people can be fake and two-faced.
Avril also single-handedly made it okay for girls
to wear men ties and created a new image for the
music industry. |

Girlfriend - N Sync & Nelly
Very few Nsync songs have a hip hop influence,
and this is definitely one of them. Co-Written
with Justin Timberlake and The Neptunes (Pharrell
and Chad had a pretty good year?). "Girlfriend"
with Nelly peaked at # 5 in the US and #in the
UK. However, in 2006 a lawsuit was filed against
all the artists, claiming copyright infringement
against TRB's song "To Be My Girlfriend".

Sk8er Boi - Avril Lavigne
Although the title is an editor's nightmare, this
song is Avril's most successful work to date world-wide.
This powerful punk/pop song has a music video
just as intense, including the trend-setting tie
once again. In 2003, Paramount Pictures bought
the rights to the story told in "Sk8er Boi",
but never followed through with the film. |
